ISLAMABAD: Collectorate of Customs, Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) seized huge quantity of illegally imported Indian gutka and other goods along with offending vehicle worth Rs22 million and arrested two people.
Sources told Customs Today that Collector Seema Raza Bukhari received credible information about smuggling attempt. She directed Deputy Collector Majid Hussain to enhance checking on entry and exit points of the GT Road and the Motorway.
He immediately constituted a team under the supervision of Superintendent Matloob Shah and Raja Basharat. The ASO team intercepted two dumpers near Hasanabdal (Rawalpindi) coming from Peshawar. During the checking process, the ASO team recovered huge quantity of Indian gutka, 900 kgs fabric, 1000 Japan made tyres, 111 gas filling cylinders, 3000 kgs of different kind of electric goods and 600 sleeves of Dunhill cigarettes.
After checking, the ASO team asked for legal documents for import and transportation of loaded goods but they failed to provide. After their failure ASO team arrested two accused persons, registered a case, ans started further investigations.
It is necessary to mention here that after assuming the charge Collector Seema Raza Bokhari has directed all anti-smuggling squads to adopt zero tolerance policy towards smuggling of foreign origin and intra-Kashmir goods.
